Activities for Older Adults

It's never too late in life to put on a pair of trainers and embrace a more active lifestyle, however if you are new or returning to exercise we would recommend visiting your GP before you start.

GO Active Gold

GO Active Gold aims to help those aged 55+ and over to live more active lifestyles by setting up physical activities in rural areas that cater for all abilities. The project aims to increase health and well-being and decrease loneliness and isolation amongst people age 55+ and over living in rural areas across South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse.

Activities include, Circuits, Yoga, Nordic Walking, Thai Chi, Zumba Gold, and Walking Football. Generation Games in association with Age UK

Find out what physical activity sessions are on near you, or be inspired to try something new! Activities include

  • Dancing
  • Tai Chi,
  • Exercise to music
  • Seated exercise
  • Dance and movement
  • Low impact aerobics
  • Golf
  • Short mat Bowls


Their aim is very simple: to make you fitter and stronger, so that you can enjoy life to the full.

They have also introduced a rewards system, whereby the more regular activity you do, the more points - and rewards - you can earn. Fancy a free exercise class, water bottle, pedometer, towel and more to get you motivated to be more active?

Health Walks

Gentle, sociable walks led by qualified leaders. All walks begin with a 1 mile route with longer routes optional. Walks are taken at a pace to suit everybody and for those that wish, often end with a trip to a local coffee shop for a hot beverage and a chat!

Nordic Walking

By utilising Nordic Walking poles you are able to work both the upper and lower body, burning nearly 50% more calories than normal walking alone! A great workout for those with joint or back problems due to the added support gained from the poles. Take one of our 'Learn to Nordic Walk' courses first and then join in one of the many social walks across the county.

Seated Exercise

A fantastic option for those unsteady on their feet as it allows you to take part in some of the popular aerobic and dance classes, but with less impact on the hips, knees and ankles. Enjoy the music and the moves and still get the heart pumping but from the comfort of a chair! Classes often include aerobics, Tai Chi and Zumba!
