Age UK Oxfordshire's Generation Games

Generation Games are commissioned by OCCG to provide an evidence-based strength and balance exercise programme (as recommended in NICE Falls Guidance and Quality Standards 2015). The programme runs 75 weekly structured exercise classes, of which 31 are Strength and Balance. They also have a particular focus on providing exercise for people living with long-term health conditions such as Parkinson's, COPD and MS.

Strength and Balance programmes to prevent falls

Maintaining and improving muscle strength and our ability to balance is crucial to helping people live independently as they age and to reducing their risk of a fall.

The web pages below provide access to the Centre for Ageing Better report and resources which are a practical point of reference to supporting information in order to help with maintaining and improving uptake and provision of strength and balance programmes in communities across the UK.


GO Active Gold

GO Active Gold is a project which encourages active and healthy ageing for people age 55+ and over living in rural areas.

There are a variety of GO Active Gold sports and physical activities on offer in more than 50 different villages across South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse district.


Oxford City Council Activity Hub

Oxford City Council's Activity Hub provides online advice on exercise, mental health, learning and cultural activities as well as outlining the activities which are available in the area for older people.


Nordic Walking UK

Nordic walking is a full-body exercise that's easy on the joints and suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
