Fighting inactivity, saving lives. Join Us.

Active Oxfordshire is here to help everyone across the county get active, get healthy and change their lives. Through collaborations across the county, we increase activity levels, help reduce health inequalities and make sure that people in the greatest need have better access to physical activity and sport. Our key priorities, known as our "Three Pillars", are Healthy Active Children; Healthy Place Shaping and Healthy for Life.

Active Oxfordshire acts as a backbone organisation within the local third sector, bringing together local charities, schools, local authorities, public health organisations and many more to fight inactivity and tackle inequality – TOGETHER.

How we work in partnership: Tackling Inequalities

In May 2020, Active Oxfordshire was awarded £50,000 from Sport England's Tackling Inequalities Fund which aims to tackle inequalities in physical activity levels through working with partners, to reach those most in need as a result of the impact of COVID-19. We identified eight partner charities, Access Sport, Oxfordshire Mind, Age UK Oxfordshire, Aspire Oxford, KEEN, Oxford Hub, OXSRAD and Oxfordshire Youth to create a community-based, hyper-local project called Active Reach.

Active Reach is now launched and transforming lives in the Greater Leys area through projects including Aspire's Gym Bus, Street Champions, volunteer networks, bike libraries and specialist physical activity resources - all designed to reach people facing severe disadvantage and those with long-term health conditions and mental health issues, empowering them to get active and improve their physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Thanks to a further £50,000 from Sport England's Tackling Inequalities Fund, we will be able to expand Active Reach to parts of Banbury and Abingdon from September 2020.

Will you join us?

If you would like to be part of our journey fighting inactivity and tackling inequality, we'd be delighted to start a conversation. Here's how you can get involved:

Healthy Active Children:

  • Work with us to promote the benefits of activity to those who can influence change in communities
  • Share our information and resources to help us reach children and young people in the greatest need
  • If your organisation helps children and young people to get more active, we'd love to work with you to achieve mutual outcomes

Healthy Place Shaping:

  • We would like to hear from community groups, charities or third-sector organisations that wish to extend current offers to include sport or physical activity.
  • Please get in touch if you're a property developer, or other party interested in creating environments that support active travel, active play or healthier neighbourhoods.
  • We are keen to start conversations with groups looking to make the most of local community assets to support people's health and well-being.

Healthy for Life:

  • Work with us to support the development of a Physical Activity pathway for patients at risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), or with Long Term Health Conditions (LTHCs)
  • Join our cross-sector approach to provide activity opportunities for older people
  • Work with us to provide physical activity pathways to improve health outcomes, reduce health inequalities and empower communities.

Active Ambassadors:

  • We are particularly keen to hear from people who may be facing barriers to getting active, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to have their voice heard. If your organisation could help identify people who might like to get involved, we'd be delighted to discuss further.
