There is a wide range of training courses available to help health and social care workforces gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to promote physical activity and empower patients/clients to be more active. Whether you're a GP, social worker or volunteer befriender, you can learn through free virtual training or e-learning courses.
Virtual Training Courses
Learn from a qualified trainer in an interactive session and within your team or as a group. These training courses are being delivered virtually online until face-to-face training can be resumed. Training sessions could be fitted into a team meeting or run as a stand-alone course.
1. Active Oxfordshire: Supporting others to be active (1hr, non-clinical, free)
We can all play a part in enabling others to be more active. Whether that's through signposting, discussing benefits or simply encouragement. In this interactive online session, we'll cover the importance and benefits of being active, national guidance and tips, free national resources, local opportunities and positive conversation skills. Participants will receive a free digital resource pack following the session.
This course is for people working in non-clinical roles such as social prescribers, care navigators, befrienders and volunteers.
2. PHE Physical Activity in Clinical Care (1hr, clinical, free)
As a healthcare professional, you play a unique role in addressing inactivity, with one in four people stating that they would be more active if they were advised by a GP or nurse. Delivered by a local Public Health England (PHE) Physical Activity Champion, this short course covers the evidence for physical activity and long-term conditions, current Chief Medical Officer's guidelines, and how to provide brief advice during consultations. A Get Berkshire Active team member will join this session to give an overview of local activity opportunities.
This course is for registered healthcare professionals. Book onto the next course here
3. Making Every Contact Count and Motivational Interviewing Training (variable, free)
